HGAs synthetic turf looks and plays exceptionally well due to our expert installation techniques. A great golf green begins with a great foundation. The sub-base of every green is vital and is the mirror image of the playing surface above it. The base, which is comprised of 6 inches of compacted stone, must be carefully graded and compacted. On top of the compacted stone we put a 1 inch layer of fine stone-dust, smoothing it out to almost resemble concrete. In actuality, the compacted rock base and the stone-dust are totally porous and drain water exceptionally well. After we test the levels, contours and undulations of the foundation and are sure of the way a golf ball will react on it, we set the cups into the base. Shortly thereafter, we place the synthetic turf on the foundation, and carefully apply the silica into the turf. Simultaneously with the application of the silica, we brush and manipulate the fibers in order to direct the tips of the carpet in a manner that will produce the truest roll possible. We add up to 8 lbs. per square foot of silica until the synthetic turf is almost filled. On top of this layer of silica we then add 1/8 inch of special black and green top dressing for aesthetic purposes.
Various types of rollers are then used to flatten the exposed tips of the carpet, in order to give the golf ball proper playing characteristics. Finally we cut the holes and install the cups. We continue to monitor the playing characteristics of the green, and with careful rolling and adjusting, your green is ready, and will continue to play well with little or no maintenance.
